WHAT IS B.A.S.I.C.? B.A.S.I.C. (Brothers And Sisters In Christ) is an outreach ministry of Full Gospel Christian Center to the campus of SUNY Stony Brook. B.A.S.I.C. has a regional office located at Elim Bible Institute, Lima, NY, which provides resources such as retreats, training materials, mission opportunities and evangelism blitzes. Its motto is: "Serving the church…to reach the colleges…to change the world."
HISTORY B.A.S.I.C. was established on the campus of SUNY Stony Brook in the Fall Semester of 1990 with only one student. Since Basic's inception, hundreds of students have been influenced mightily for the Kingdom of God. As a result, some have gone into full-time ministry, while others have served the Lord faithfully in graduate school or in their professional careers. The group is very culturally diverse, consisting of many international students from all over the world. Throughout the years, dozens of students have been water baptized and gone on to become disciples of Christ.
MISSION B.A.S.I.C. exists to aid Full Gospel Christian Center in effectively reaching, discipling, and challenging college students as they stand for Christ. The vision of B.A.S.I.C. can be summed up in 7 points:
1. Salvation through Christ 2. Baptism in the Holy Spirit 3. Biblical Worship & Praise 4. Local Church Involvement/Commitment 5. Personal Destiny 6. Prayer 7. Evangelism
WEEKLY MEETING FORMAT B.A.S.I.C. meets on Mondays at 8:00 pm in the Student Union Building, Room 236. The format consists of Praise & Worship, Announcements, Testimonies, Bible lesson or group exercise/video, time of prayer, and fellowship/refreshments. Weekly events are as follows: Men's/Women’s Small Group, B.I.T.E. Evangelistic Prayer Meeting, and Literature Table Outreach. Unity is maintained with other fellowships on the campus through corporate concerts of prayer and student leader meetings.
EVANGELISTIC OUTREACHES B.A.S.I.C. reaches out to a spiritually desolate campus in a variety of ways. Some of the strategies/blitzes include Prayer Walks, Tract/Flier Distribution, Bible Pop Quiz/Surveys, Gospel Concerts and Debates/Lectures, i.e. "Creation vs. Evolution".
RETREAT Our dynamic retreat is the highlight of each semester. The conference is held in Syracuse, NY and is attended by hundreds of students from about thirty campuses. The speakers always deliver an "in-season" message to the hearts of everyone. Students are challenged in their faith and dedication to the Lord. There is also an awesome time of celebration during praise & worship.
B.A.S.I.C. & FULL GOSPEL CHRISTIAN CENTER (F.G.C.C.) Throughout the years, students have served in local churches as ushers, band members and in the ministry of helps. Students have also conducted special B.A.S.I.C. services, which have been a blessing to the congregation. F.G.C.C. has embraced the students of SUNY Stony Brook. They have ministered to them practically and financially and we give thanks for this.

TESTIMONIES
As a recent graduate of Stony Brook University, what I will miss most about my time at college is my weekly fellowship meetings with B.A.S.I.C. How I came to be a member and eventually vice-president of B.A.S.I.C. at Stony Brook was very interesting. During my freshman year I became saved. I decided that since I was a "baby Christian," I needed guidance and support from other Christians who would understand my new transformation. I searched around for a group to join and got caught up with a false Christian group. I began to think that a group for honest believers must not really exist. That's when I was walking into the student union and saw a Christian information table or as I later learned it was called a "Book table." Gene, the overseer of B.A.S.I.C. at SB saw my interest and called me over to the table. He told me when they met and gave me some literature to read. I was so excited that my search was over. Instead of looking any further B.A.S.I.C. found me! I went to the first meeting and never stopped going. B.A.S.I.C. gave me a place where I could go to freely worship the Lord with others who were in the same age range and position as myself. I made invaluable friendships and gained much needed knowledge about the God whom I love so much. Nothing is coincidental; God knew that B.A.S.I.C. is where I needed to be. It gave me the support I needed to make it out of college without falling into any type of trouble and the friendships I have made through B.A.S.I.C. will carry on for a lifetime. Amy-Christina Peoples class of '04 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- God has really blessed me through the B.A.S.I.C. ministry at the Stony Brook campus. Even before attending Stony Brook, I was researching the various Christian organizations on campus because I realized how important it was to have a continuous relationship with God on a big campus. There were times when I felt depressed, but just being in the presence of young people who were fired up for Christ made a positive difference during my struggles. So I just wanna "Big up" King Jesus! Kris Service ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My name is Dana Hastie and I'm a international student all the way from New Zealand. I arrived in New York in January 2004, to take up an athletic scholarship that was offered to me at Stony Brook University. I really didn't know what lay ahead of me as I arrived at JFK airport in the most extreme cold weather that I had ever felt, I actually wanted to jump back on the plane and go home. But as always, God had other plans for me. The first couple of weeks at Stony Brook University were a real test of my faith in God, as I knew no one and it seemed like every possible challenge was being thrown at me. I sincerely prayed for Christain friends and for a Church that God could plant me in. Sure enough God took care of me and I found out about the on-campus Christian fellowship group called B.A.S.I.C. I went along and met some awesome on-fire young people and I've been going along ever since. B.A.S.I.C has not only been a huge encouragement to me and my walk with God, but it is always a place I look forward to going on Monday nights to find refreshing and renewal, along with the fellowship of other Christians. I also started attending Full Gospel Christain Center and I immediately found my home away from home. Even though my family is around the other side of the world, God has planted me in a Church where I have a family in Christ Jesus. You've just got to trust God! He'll never leave or forsake you!
